Infertility in women is often a result of ovulation problems. The reason for these problems could be many but the result is always difficulty in pregnancy.
The process of inducing ovulation through hormonal therapy is termed ovulation Induction. Ovulation Induction aims at developing one or two follicles to grow and ovulate.
The success rate of ovulation induction varies between 5- 10%
What is ovulation?
Ovulation is the process when a fully formed egg is released into the fallopian tube to fuse with the sperm and get fertilized. This fertilized egg then develops into a baby.
On whom can it be performed?
It is performed in
- women with irregular cycles,
- women with anovulation like polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS) and
- women with Unexplained infertility.
How is it performed?
From day 2- 3 of the menstrual cycle, women are prescribed ovulation-inducing drugs in the form of oral or injectables for about 7-14 days depending upon the response.
Once the follicle attains the desired Size, ovulation is initiated by giving a trigger injection in the form of an injectable (hCG injection) and the couple is explained about the probable fertility window.
